Piano For Beginners
If you’re a complete beginner or if you were taught when you were younger and gave it up, to start playing the piano or the keyboards you will have to have some sort of tuition. What ever your situation, the methodology for learning will be the same.
There are quite a few methods of tuition but really they are all very similar. Today, most students will be using an electronic keyboards, the learning process for keyboards is virtually the same as it is for the piano.
Many students will need to learn how to read music and play a few classical pieces but they will probably also be interested in playing some modern music, pop songs or maybe even Jazz. They might also want to learn how to accompany singers and other instrumentalist.
All of this may sound a little ambitious for a complete beginner but you really need to know where you are going right from the very start. You will find that in a relatively short time you will be achieving most of the above.

A short while ago I had to write a review for a home study piano course called ‘Piano For All’, I loved the method they used for teaching and I would like to let you know my impressions.
The fist thing they teach is how to recognize the notes on the keyboard. You are then taught how to read those notes on the musical stave. This is worked through very quickly and then you are taught how to play an easy tune using all of your fingers. The melody is written out so you can see it and there is also a diagram of the piano keyboard to remind you where the notes in question are.
That is only the first part of the first lesson. After this you are shown the three notes that make up a basic chord. To play the chord you are given a simple little rhythm to play. Next you are asked to duplicate the first note of the chord with your left hand but an octave lower, this gives you a bass note. You are shown a new rhythm to follow which involves using both hands and then suddenly you find that you are actually playing beginners piano and it sounds musical and isn’t taxing in the least.
Once you have this feeling easy to play, which will be almost straight away, you will then be shown two or three more simple basic chords. By Using the rhythms they show you and changing chords from one to the other forming a chord sequence you now discover that you are playing an authentic piano accompaniment to which you or another person might sing or play along to (This will all have happened in a matter of about 20 minutes or so). Learning this way is fantastic for the confidence and leaves you wanting to learn more.
The course continues teaching more different rhythms, more chords and melodies and each time you are shown how this is written musically. Very soon you find yourself advancing as a piano player and musician and with each lesson your playing will start to sound more and more authentic.
In my opinion this method of learning is one of the best as it encompasses playing all styles of music from classical to pop, rock, jazz and gospel. You also get taught how to read music and play by ear and as such is very effective.
